Notice of wastewater overflow
Please take notice that on Sunday, November 25, 2018, the Town of Federalsburg wastewater treatment plant, located at 125 Kerney Street, Federalsburg, experienced an overflow, which caused a discharge of wastewater into Marshy Hope Creek. The overflow was caused by a pump failure. The Maryland Department of the Environment was contacted, as well as the Caroline County Director of Environmental Health. The pumps have been repaired and the site was cleaned up, limed and has been put back in operation.
The public is advised to avoid contact with the water in the impacted area. This is a recommendation against swimming, wading, or types of water recreation activity where water could be swallowed or get in the mouth, eyes or nose. The public should also avoid direct skin contact if possible and immediately wash with soap and water if you are exposed to the impacted area.
Any questions should be directed to the Town Manager, Shirley Greene, at (410) 754- 8173 or Don Wilson, Caroline County Director of Environmental Health (410) 479-8049.
