The Town tax rate is .84 per $100 dollars of assessable value. The Town of Federalsburg's taxes are currently being issued and collected by the Caroline County Treasurer's Office. This means that the County and Town taxes are included on the same bill. Any questions regarding your tax bill may be directed to the Treasurer's office at 410-479-0410.

The Town of Federalsburg's Personal Property Tax Rate is $1.65 per $100 of assessable value. The Personal Property Tax is a business tax that is based on business equipment or machinery used in the local business. This tax is not an inventory tax on goods produced for sale. The Town receives an assessment from the State of Maryland, which is calculated based on inventory information on tax forms that every business sends to the State. The Town then generates a tax bill based on that assessment. Any questions regarding a Personal Property Tax Bill may be directed to Shirley Greene at the Town Office at 410-754-8173 or the State Office of Assessment & Taxation at 410-767-1164.

Garbage, Trash And Bulk Trash Pick-up
The Town of Federalsburg picks up household garbage every Tuesday. Residents of the town must complete a form at the town hall to obtain the required garbage can, which is provided by the town free of charge. An additional can may be purchased for $75.00. If a trash can gets damaged, residents should call the town office immediately at 410-754-8173 to report the damages to Steve Dyott, Public Works Director. Garbage cans should be placed at the curb, with wheels facing the house. The Town of Federalsburg will not pick up your garbage if it is not in a garbage can that is supplied by the Town!  It must also be bagged and contain only household garbage!  All corrugated cardboard must be recycled!  There are recycling containers for public use located at the rear of the municipal parking lot on Morris Avenue. There is a flat rate fee for garbage collection, which is included on the quarterly water and sewer bill.  This fee is currently $37.55.

Bulk Trash is collected by the Town of Federalsburg on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Some of the items that are accepted include: furniture, appliances, mattresses, carpet, etc.  These items require a ticket, which can be obtained at the Town Office 410-754-8173, for a cost of $4.00 per item.

There is a list of garbage regulations available, anyone who would like to obtain a copy should contact the Town Office at 410-754-8173.

Water Tower
The Town of Federalsburg has a recycling program to help lower tax dollar costs associated with the garbage collection and landfill fees; at the same time to help with the beautification of the Town of Federalsburg. Containers are located in the rear of the municipal parking lot off of Morris Avenue for the voluntary disposal of glass bottles, aluminum, tin, newspapers and cardboard. Glass recycling is easy and smart. The bottles and cans need not be cleaned; it is only asked that the metal and plastic lids be removed.

Snow Removal
The Town of Federalsburg has a Snow Emergency Policy. Residents are required to remove the snow from all sidewalks within 24 hours after the snowfall has stopped. It is imperative that residents do not shovel snow into the street; because even though the snow has stopped falling, the snowplows will still be working to clear the streets. Any snow that is thrown into the street could be thrown back onto the sidewalk by snowplows.

All vehicles must be moved from the Snow Emergency Routes, which are clearly marked with street signs. Any vehicle that is not removed from the Snow Emergency Route, will be towed at the owner's expense.

Building Permits
If you plan to do any type of construction to your home or business, please contact the Code Enforcement Officer prior to commencement of any work to inquire about a building permit. There are some items that do not require a permit; however, it is best to inquire prior to starting a job.

If a building permit is necessary, an application must be completed and returned with a drawing or sketch of the planned work. Once this information is received, it will be reviewed by the Code Enforcement Officer. After approval, the permit will be issued by the Code Enforcement Officer and the applicant will be contacted to come into the office to  pay the fee and collect your permit.
